We look for both volunteers (in the United States) and students (in China or in the United States) and pair them on tutoring a lesson. Most lessons are conducted 1:1 online, with a few lessons are up to 1:3 teacher/student ratio or conducted in person. 

All the lessons are given in sessions. Each season is composed of 10 lessons. To receive the lesson, students need to donate to Connect & Learning. For our volunteers, Connect & Learning will track each volunteer’s contributing time as well as the total amount of funding raised due to each volunteer’s contribution. Connect & Learning will apply for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PSVA) for the volunteer. Connect & Learning will also issue proof of community contributing hours in C&L for volunteers who decide to apply PSVA via other organizations.

All the raised funding will be spent on these three categories ONLY:

• All fundings that collected in ESL program will be used for an education aid program for sponsoring youth/teens in rural area of China (四川和贵州).

• All funds raised in other programs will be used to sponsor children in low income families and handicapped children in the United States.

• PSVA Application fee.

• Note that all executors/workers in C&L are volunteers without any wage. Fees like facilities, locations or food are also provided by volunteers without charge.

Compared with other volunteering programs, our program has many benefits, including but not limited to:

• Flexible: The 1:1 tutoring program offers great flexibility on choosing the time at their convenience including frequency and time. It can also be rescheduled as needed as long as agreed by the student. With most courses online, it saves volunteer’s transportation time and all time spent on volunteering will be counted for PSVA.

• Huge Impact: Our volunteers are mostly middle school/high school students, where education/knowledge is their best treasure of them. Education is also the most necessary thing that lots of families need.

• Personal Growth: Our volunteers can learn a lot from the volunteering activity, not only on learning how to teach/tutoring, but also a lot of communications/leadership skills such as mentoring other volunteers, preparing materials, organizing the track as well as run training for volunteers.

• Learn from Anywhere: It saves lots of time on transportation given most of the program is online.
